The departments of the Markaz
Maktab-Hifz
This department has a Hifz section of up to three years' duration, starting from Quran teaching itself and including nazira and shunani (guided recitation practice). This department is divided into three branches — Maktab, Nazira and Hifz. The maximum age for admission here is ten years.
Idadi
For students who do not wish to pursue Hifz, this department teaches various duas, masalas, memorisation of necessary surahs, and the necessary subjects including Bengali, arithmetic, English and Arabic. The maximum age for admission here is twelve years.
Kitab
At present this department covers the Kitab course from the first year (Taysir) to the sixth year (Jalalain). The seventh (Mishkat) and eighth year (Dawra) will open within the next two-three years, inshaAllah. The maximum age for admission to the first year is thirteen years.
Takhasus
It is the specialised higher department for subjects such as Fiqh, Hadith, Tafsir and Adab. At present there is a two-year Fiqh (Ifta) department where selected students are taught the principles of fatwa and its practice. The Hadith, Tafsir, Adab and Dawah departments will also open within the next three-four years, inshaAllah. The maximum age for admission to the Ifta department is twenty-three years.
